Tenure-Track Assistant Professor of Philosophy

The Department of Arts, Languages, & Philosophy at Missouri University of Science and Technology invites applications for a tenure-track position in philosophy at the rank of Assistant Professor, to begin in August 2018. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate-level philosophy courses, contribute to strengthening our department’s philosophy program, maintain an active research program, and fully engage in the life of our diverse department. The typical teaching load will be 3 three-credit courses per semester, some of which may be delivered online. Candidates should have an area of specialization in ethics, applied ethics, or philosophy of technology. Candidates should be competent to teach in each of these areas as well as in the history of philosophy, and should be willing to engage actively with S&T’s new Center for Science, Technology, and Society.

Missouri S&T is one of the nation’s leading research universities.  Located about 100 miles west of St. Louis in the community of Rolla, Missouri S&T is an accessible, safe and friendly campus surrounded by Ozarks scenery.  Missouri S&T offers degrees in engineering, the sciences, liberal arts, humanities and business, with master’s and Ph.D. programs available in many of the science and engineering programs and master’s degrees in biological sciences, business administration and technical communication.  With nearly 9,000 students enrolled online and on campus, Missouri S&T is big enough to accommodate a diverse population but small enough for individuals to stand out.

Minimum Qualifications

The minimum requirements for this position include a Ph.D. in philosophy, a record of scholarly activity, evidence of successful college-level teaching, and experience integrating current technologies into courses.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred qualifications include a record of excellence in college-level teaching.
